Interrupt Marketing - is the more traditional model of product/service marketing, in which you force people to stop what they’re doing to pay attention to your marketing message. Small Businesses Have Unique Marketing Needs

Marketing for a small business is different from marketing for a larger business in several ways; here are four key considerations:

  • The first consideration is that every single dollar counts. Most small businesses struggle to fund an appropriate marketing budget. So, there is little (no) ability to experiment; you need to stick to what works and maximize the value of every dollar spent.

  • The second consideration is that the marketing plan needs to be executable by an administrative-level person. There is no ability to hire a highly skilled (expensive) person to execute your marketing plan. An outside marketing executive can create the plan, but it has to be easy enough to implement using in-house staff.

  • The third consideration is you need to leverage the heck out of “local advertising” mechanisms such as Google “My Business.” Many of these services are free or low cost and have proven to be very useful in improving local visibility.

  • The fourth consideration is although there are exceptions, many small businesses should not even think about spending money on SEO; Unless you have a very established and comprehensive website that has already been online for years. Even then, you’ll likely struggle to be able to compete against larger companies with enormous budgets and resources. Either way, you can get found on Google, but you’ll need to utilize a different strategy.
